ATATÜRK CORNER

With Respect to Our Great Teacher Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

Tarabya Yıldız College | TED AD places the principles and reforms of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey, at the heart of our educational philosophy.

The phrase “The truest guide in life is science” is not only a guide for us, but also a responsibility. With this responsibility, we raise individuals who think and question in the light of reason and science, and who possess universal values.

Atatürk’s vision of modern and secular education continues to inspire each and every one of our students.

1. Atatürk’s Understanding of Education

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk regarded education as the most powerful tool for a nation’s development. For him, education meant not only equipping individuals with knowledge but also with values. Education, in Atatürk’s view, was a process of enlightenment. That is why he described teachers as the “architects of the new generation” and considered schools as the most important institutions for building a nation’s future.

2. The Republic and Modern Education

The Republic is not only a system of governance based on the sovereignty of the people but also the guarantee of a modern and secular education system. Atatürk advocated for an education free from religious dogmas, built on reason and science. As Tarabya Yıldız College, in line with this vision, we aim to raise free individuals who think critically and in accordance with universal standards.

3. Atatürk as the Head Teacher

On November 24, 1928, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk received the title of “Head Teacher of the Nation’s Schools.” He is a role model for all educators. His role as a teacher was not limited to teaching literacy; it was about building a young republic on cultural, scientific, and moral foundations. For this reason, every November 24th, as we celebrate Teachers’ Day, we also pay tribute to Atatürk’s identity as an educator.

4. Atatürk’s Message to Future Generations

The concept of “Atatürk’s youth” is not confined to one era; it is a vision that transcends ages. “O rising new generation! The future is yours. We founded the Republic; you will elevate and preserve it.” These words are not only a responsibility but also a testament of great trust entrusted to our students.

5. Our Journey with Atatürk’s Words

“To see me does not necessarily mean to see my face. If you understand my ideas, my feelings, that is enough.”

“The form of government most suited to the character and traditions of the Turkish nation is the Republic.”

“The greatest battle is the battle against ignorance.”

As Tarabya Yıldız College, we embrace these words as inspiration at every step. We continue to work for generations who are free in thought, free in conscience, and free in knowledge.
